News
Chief Deputy John Samaniego and The Shelby County Sheriff's Office have been very responsive and supportive of the needs and concerns of Eagle Point.
Here are a few of actions Chief Deputy Samaniego has personally been involved in:
• Actively investigated cases of vandalism / graffiti in Eagle Point in 2014.
• Communicated with Eagle Point during the investigation of car break-ins in 2012 and 2014.
• Facilitated the installation of radar speed signs in Eagle Point in June 2014.
• Increased regular patrols in the neighborhood.
• Deputies respond quickly when residents call with concerns.
We are fortunate to have the Shelby County Sheriff's Office serving and protecting our neighborhood.
Speeding
Your HOA is continuing to address speeding through the neighborhood. You may have noticed the new electronic speed detection signs that are placed on the main parkway through Eagle Point. We are working with Shelby County Sheriff’s department to improve neighborhood awareness and to increase the presence of deputies in the problem areas. Please be aware of your speed and know that the HOA and the Sheriff are committed to slowing down the speeders.
We would also like to take this opportunity to remind our neighbors that it is dangerous to speed, text and drive, and park on the street. Earlier this month, there was an accident with a vacant parked vehicle that caused the closure of Eagle Point Circle for almost an hour. Fortunately our neighbor was not seriously injured. However, it is easy to imagine that the collision could have involved an occupied vehicle or pedestrians on Eagle Point Circle.
Please help us keep Eagle Point a safe and happy place to live. Please park in your garage or driveway, please slow down when driving through the neighborhood, and absolutely do not text and drive.
In our ongoing efforts to address speeding in the neighborhood, we can move the speed detection signs throughout the neighborhood. Please inform the HOA office if you see a problem area where we need to install the signs.
Upcoming Events
Mark your calendars for the HOA's upcoming events! On Saturday, September 13, the semi-annual garage sale will take place from 7 am through 2 pm. As always, this is a great opportunity to make a few bucks selling items that are no longer needed, or to land a great deal buying some wanted items!
Next, the annual neighborhood Fall Festival is scheduled take place on Sunday, October 26. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet your fellow neighbors, and to enjoy some great food and prizes donated by local business. For the children, the HOA will be ordering bounce houses to help burn that excess energy.
Finally, the annual cookies with Santa and carriage ride will take place on Sunday, December 7. Hopefully your kids have been good this year so that Santa can furnish them with all they desire! If you are interested in helping with or donating to these last two events, please email [email protected]

Safety & Security
As many of you were notified by the RSAS - Realtime Security Alert System - a burglary occurred on Talon Court on Sunday August 3. The details are unclear, so we will not theorize on the specific conditions or suspect. There were no other incidents in the area and there were no signs of forced entry. We have high hopes that this was in isolated incident, but we all need to continue to keep our homes and vehicles locked, and keep out a watchful eye for your neighbors' property. Do not hesitate to call the Shelby County Sheriff's Office at 669.4181 (non-emergency) or 911 to report suspicious people or vehicles.
Be careful when choosing contractors and service-providers to work in your home. Vet them and never pay in advance. Many of us become complacent at times, and there are people willing to take advantage of an easy opportunity. Several cases have been reported to us where contractors failed to complete work for which they were pre-paid. Also, some contractors have harrassed homeowners in Eagle Point for non-payment when jobs were not properly completed. Some of these headaches can be prevented by thoroughly evaluating the service-providers beforehand, and checking the provided references.
We also have to be vigilant about seemingly innocent solicitors in Eagle Point, who may have other motives. Recently we received a report about two young men visiting door-to-door to do yard work in Eagle Point. They were driving a vehicle with Florida plates, and a homeowner called the Sheriff. While they did not look like "criminals", they were subsequently transported to the Shelby County jail because of outstanding warrants. It takes little time to do these two things to help keep you and your family physically and fiscally safe.
Note that the Eagle Point Facebook page is an informal page set up by homeowners to share all types of information. The HOA is not involved with this Facebook page. If you would like clarification or more information about a relevant topic posted on Facebook, please contact the HOA office and refer to the Eagle Pointer newsletter.
